Here are the answers to many of the questions that new families have about Cub Scouts and specifically Pack 46:
- Who is Pack 46?
- Pack 46 currently consists of Cub Scouts from south Minneapolis area schools. We most often have Scouts from Lake Harriet Community School (Upper and Lower), Burroughs, Kenny, Whittier, Windom, Armatage, Barton, and several other private schools located throughout Southwest Minneapolis.
- What is the Difference Between the Pack and a Den?
- A Den is a smaller group of scouts who are usually in the same grade level. Most dens have about 6-10 scouts in them and they stay a together as the progress through the ranks. The Pack is the combination of all the Dens. The Pack is mixed gender.
- Who are the Leaders?
- Pack and den leaders are all volunteers. We strive to have 2 leaders for each position so that responsibilities can be shared and no one person is over committed.
- We welcome new leaders if you would like to volunteer! It’s fun and rewarding! There are roles that require recurring commitments such as Den Leader, or there are opportunities to help with event-specific roles for activities such as Blue-and-Gold Banquet, Camping coordinator, or other events.
- A roster of our current leaders is here: Leaders
- Leaders have had background checks, youth protection training, and BSA position specific training.
- What age can my child join Scouting?
- As early as Kindergarten and as late as 5th grade! Kindergarten aged youth are Lions, and they have a den meeting once a month, all other ages will meet with their den twice a month.
- In addition to the den meetings, we meet as a Pack once a month for a communal activity. You can see the current schedule here: Calendar
- You can join Scouting at any age – you don’t have to start in a certain grade.
- Can girls join Pack 46?
- Cub Scouts were recently expanded to include girls and Pack 46 welcomes girls to join. Dens may be mixed or single sex depending on enrollment at each level in a given year.
- All dens (boys and girls) join together for monthly pack meetings or pack activities.
- What is involved in joining?
- First, see our Signup page: Signup
- Parents or guardians attend the meetings with their scouts. In den meetings, scouts work on activities to achieve their badges. Pack meetings are a time to recognize achievements and advancements, to have fun and to share what dens have been working on. We have many fun pack activities scheduled throughout the year, see our calendar here: Calendar.
